2007 Conference History
Three
years ago, five students in the Graduate
Diploma in Sport Administration in the John
Molson School of Business at Concordia
University organized the first ever DSA
Sport Business Conference. The conference
continued last March and will continue again
in 2008.
The conference has grown in size and popularity each year and we expect this
year to be no different. The purpose of the conference is to educate students
about the opportunities available in the world of sport business and discuss
prominent and controversial sport business issues.
 |
Last
year's conference was a success as it attracted
over 75 students from Quebec, Ontario, New
Brunswick, and the United States.
There
were prominent guest speakers from professional
teams such as the Montreal
Canadiens and
the Montreal
Alouettes, from sporting
good manufacturers
such as Oakley and Sports
Biz and from amateur sports,
including the Canadian Olympic
Committee and
the Quebec Junior Football League.
|
This
event is entirely a not-for-profit student
initiative be graduate students from the
Diploma in Sport Administration at the John
Molson School of Business at Concordia
University. We are committed to living up
to the legacy left by past students and building
on that legacy to make this conference even
better than in the past.

The
2007 Organizing Committee:
Matt
De Faria:
My name is Matt De Faria and
I grew up in Mississauga, Ontario. As a kid,
I played and followed almost any sport I could.
Today, I am extremely passionate about hockey,
baseball and football. After graduating with
my Honours
in Business Administration at Wilfrid Laurier University, I came to
Montreal at the beginning of the year for Concordia's Diploma in Sports
Administration. While at Laurier I worked extensively with the Football
Program, writing articles and handling the media on game days. I decided to join
the 2007 Organizing Committee as soon as I found out about it in January.

Charles
Lesieur:
My name is Charles Lesieur,
I was born and raised in France. I graduate
with a Bachelor of Commerce in International
Business from Concordia
University in 2006. I joined the GDSA last September.
I have had the chance to play Pro Hockey in France before coming to Montreal,
which led me to start a career as a Hockey Agent in 2004. I joined the organizing
committee after attending this great conference in 2005. I really enjoyed it
and wanted perpetuate the tradition. Hope to see you all on March 30th! |
Mohammed
Shihabeldeen:
Hey everyone, my name is Mohammed, but
all my friends call me Mo. Since
I first arrived to Canada over a decade ago, I
have lived in Montreal. I graduated from John
Abbott College and received my Bachelor’s
Degree in Applied Human Sciences at Concordia
University majoring in Human Relations. I have
always had two loves, Music and Sports. With a
long experience in the music industry, I decided
to pursue my second passion by enrolling in the
Graduate Diploma in Sport AdministrationProgram
at the John Molson School of Business. I have since
been part of the gameday staff for the Montreal
Alouettes and working for the very team I have
always been a fan of. I love all sports but am
most passionate about the game of football and
I hope to continue to work close to the sport I
admire the most.
